How We Make Friends

 * For the first time, we participated in River Bend's National Night Out, sponsored by River Bend's Police Department. The weather cooperated, and the event was well attended, so we met people eager to learn about the garden club. We distributed a flyer and candy, and raffled off a large aloe plant. Those who pulled it all together were Membership Chair Deb Riddle, Adopt-A-Plant Chair Steve Sarg, and President Susan Martinelli. A tri-fold photo display showed attendees some highlights of meetings, trips, and guest speakers.

We Hit the Road for July 4!

* We always participate in River Bend's traditional Independence Day Parade! This year we decorated a convertible with paper flowers and flags, and walked our banner down the parade route. Thanks go to all the members who decorated and marched.

September Means Bake Sale

* Our annual Bake Sale is just one month away, and our members are already planning what to bake.  Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 27. Doors open at 7 a.m. at the River Bend Municipal Building for this, our only annual fundraiser.  Customers arrive early to seek out their favorites -- whether cookies, bars, cakes, or pies! Usually, the sale wraps up around noon.

What Makes a Gardener?

*   September 9 begins our 52nd year as River Bend's garden club. The season's first speaker is Maureen Loomer. Her topic is “What Makes a Gardener?” A retired community college professor, her background is in biology and medical research, including native and medicinal plants and alternative agriculture. It’s bound to be a fascinating PowerPoint presentation.
